Hey folks! Today, I’m excited to share with you a mouth – watering Chinese dish called seasonal vegetable stew with meat and steamed buns. This dish doesn’t have a strict list of ingredients. Using seasonal vegetables ensures the best flavor. Paired with pork and steamed buns, it combines your main course and staple food in one pot, making it super delicious. It takes about an hour to make, and while the cooking process is a bit challenging, the result is definitely worth it. The taste is savory, which will surely satisfy your taste buds.
Let’s start by gathering the ingredients. You’ll need half a pumpkin, one potato, one fresh corn, a bunch of green beans, and a pot of stewed meat. For seasonings, you’ll want some light soy sauce, salt, chicken bouillon, and water. As for the side ingredients, grab two bird’s eye chilies, some scallions, three garlic cloves, and five Sichuan peppercorns.
Now, let’s get cooking! First, pick through the green beans. Remove the ends and the strings, then give them a good wash.
Next, grab half a pumpkin. It’ll be a key part of our stew later.
Peel one potato. A peeled potato will cook more evenly in the stew.
Heat some oil in a pan and stir – fry the green beans until their skins are slightly charred. This step gives the beans a great flavor.
Peel the pumpkin and cut it into chunks. Also, cut the potato into pieces. Using leftover stewed meat is a great idea because it makes the vegetables absorb the meat flavor better, and the meat gets even softer. Plus, it shortens the cooking time.
Chop up the scallions, garlic, and bird’s eye chilies. These will add a nice kick to our dish.
Start a new pan and heat some oil. Throw in the chopped scallions, garlic, chilies, and Sichuan peppercorns. Stir them around until they start to release their amazing aroma.
Add the potato and corn to the pan and stir them well to coat them with the flavors.
Then, put the stir – fried green beans into the pan.
Pour in some light soy sauce to give the dish a rich color and flavor.
Add an appropriate amount of water. This will be the base for our stew.
Now, add the stewed meat to the pan. The meat will infuse the vegetables with its deliciousness.
Turn the heat to medium and let the stew simmer slowly. This allows all the flavors to meld together.
While the stew is simmering, it’s time to make the steamed buns. Prepare a dough board and sprinkle some rice flour on it.
Place the risen dough on the dough board.
Roll the dough into a ball and then flatten it into a thin sheet.
Brush some oil on the surface of the dough sheet.
Sprinkle some salt on the oiled dough.
Then, dust some dry flour over the salt.
Roll up the dough sheet from one side and divide it into sections.
Pinch off small pieces from the rolled – up dough.
Twist each piece into a nice – looking steamed bun shape.
Even the cats would be drooling at this point!
Check the stew. The vegetables should be getting soft by now.
Add the pumpkin chunks to the stew and season with some salt.
Pour in some more water, but make sure the water level is lower than the pumpkin.
Place the shaped steamed buns in the pot around the stew.
Keep placing the buns until the pot is full.
Cover the pot and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, open the pot.
Look at these beautiful, fluffy steamed buns!
And the stew is just as amazing, with all the vegetables and meat cooked to perfection.
So, dear friends, don’t be afraid of the high – level cooking challenge. Just follow these steps, and you’ll be able to enjoy this wonderful seasonal vegetable stew with meat and steamed buns at home. Give it a try!
